Marathon training (or lack of!) week 2!
Well week 1 out the way on to week 2! I woke up last Monday morning with a slight niggle on the side of shin bone. I blocked it out of my mind as i just thought i was being paranoid. As some of you may know I was out injured last sep/oct for 7 weeks with shin splints.
Mon was my rest day and throughout the day and onto Tuesday I continued to get a throbbing pain down my leg (a lesson that many of you motivational speakers brought up last week, LISTEN TO YOUR BODY!) I am a classic example of failing to do so.
Continuing to stubbornly ignore the warning signs I joined Nora and Kieran for some 200m speed/ interval sessions. say no more!
I have not been running for 6 days now so as far as training goes, core strength and using the cross trainer (yawn) at my local gym has kept me ticking over.
Seeing as I am unable to write much in the way of running this week, I thought I would quickly mention a physio I have been seeing and would highly reccommendec to those with injuries.
Nigel kindly put me in touch with a physio called Scott, who also happens to run for w4 harriers and he is based in acton lane, Chiswick.
Now I have never been to see a physio before and apart from the work he has done on massaging my leg back to fitness and advice on stretching (another of my failings!) he has a fantastic machine called a G Trainer. Apologies to those of you that are already fully aware of this piece of kit but I just wanted to say it is bloody great and I had never heard of it.
The g trainer is a running machine, Where from the waste down you are zipped into a type of air tight compression bag. The bag is then slowly filled with air to take to impact off of your feet whist running. It can be set to with hold any % of your body weight. By using this machine whilst recovering from injury, you are able to continue running without adding to the pain.
For those that would be interested to have a chat with Scott with regards to persistent injuries etc, I have persuaded him to come along to out next social at the beginning of feb in the new inn. (sssshhhhh don't tell w4 harriers)
I will sign off by saying that my injury is much improved and will be up and running within days. So sorry nanda and Yvonne I cannot offer you the reserve marathon spots just yet!
Have a good week all
