Maidenhead Half Marathon 2011
A team of 9 Eagles made it along the M4 for the inaugural Maidenhead Half Marathon, spurred on by the promise of a scenic and flat course through and around Maidenhead,
The entry of 2000+ were not disappointed on either front, the route was very flat with only a couple of bridges over the river/railway and taking in the very scenic (not to mention exclusive) villages of Bray & Cookham. The race, organised by Purple Patch was very well organised and had plenty of enthusiastic marshals to direct & cheer the runners.
Starting out quite mild, the weather turned after around an hour moving through various levels of drizzle before maintaining "downpour" status for most of the final miles. Luckily the spactators, well prepared with umbrellas and overcoats, were not deterred and ensured a well supported finish in front of the town hall.
As a nice touch, those completing this inaugural race will get to keep their numbers for future years, so that's something at least no.311 will look forward to in September 2012.
