Writer's Block………

Hi all and sincere apologies for being long overdue with this blog.  Seriously letting the club down and I am feeling the shame. I am having what they call writer’s block….. I mean I have delivered 4 blogs so far, so I am drawing a bit of a blank.

My training is going okeyish, but to be honest, every time I go out running, I seem to be feeling a new niggle somewhere else.  I know this is a phenomenon many of you can also relate to and I find comfort in that I am not alone with this. 😊

Went to see Steve from Move a couple of weeks back, because I thought I had done something to my knee, but it turns out that it was the Sargitorious muscle that runs from the inside of your knee, wraps itself around the back of it and then up all the way to your hip, that was causing the issue.  Just needed a not so gentle massage and things are luckily better now. Steve showed me a few exercises which he wants me to do in order to strengthen all the bits that keep hurting me whilst running. He made me jump from a step (you know the kind you get in the gym) to see how I land. Then he demonstrated how it should be done.  So, he jumps off the step and lands like a feather dropping gently to the ground. Then I jump off that thing and it sounds more like a hippo taking a belly dive. Now for those of you who know Steve, know that he is not a small fella. For him to have such a soft landing compared to my crash landing was hilarious and we both giggled for ages whilst taking turns to keep jumping of the step.  To this day I still sound like a hippo when jumping off the bottom step from my stairs at home. More effort and practise is clearly needed to master this extremely challenging task…….lol

I am up to 19 miles now, which I ran two weeks ago.  Wasn’t looking forward to it that much, as I knew I was going to get it done solo.  To my surprise it went well, and I had a great time running and hit the desired target pace of 10:30 spot on.  Happy running days for once and my glutes didn’t give me that much grief either.

Had my friend and his wife from Spain over a couple of weeks ago (hence the need for 19-mile solo run on the Friday).  It was their first visit to London and for three consecutive days we traveled into central London to see all sorts of tourist attractions.  This of course gave me plenty of opportunity to point out any bits of the VLM route. When we finally reached Monument, we went up it and admired the view, which only costs ya £4.50.  Once back down again it was time for the highlight of all attractions. I had saved the best for last. We walked down to the most iconic place of all in London, Mile 23. There I was explaining what will happen here in a couple of months and describing with great enthusiasm the anticipated atmosphere.  My friend and his wife found it all very amusing and I think it became obvious that I am ever so slightly excited about reaching Mile 23 on 26th April.

Keeping my fingers crossed and hope corona won’t get in the way.  Feeling it for all those Eagles who had trained for Tokyo, Paris and other Marathons or Half’s that have been called off or been postponed. Will keep on running…
