Sorry folks, I am a bit late with this blog and be warned. There will be plenty of grammar mistakes etc. so please read on with caution. My proof-reader is not about, so this is the raw draft.
Anyway, scroll back to Wed. 22nd Jan, club run was on the running menu. Left the house in plenty of time for a change and got to the Green, where a large flock of Eagles was already gathering with anticipation of the imminent weekly announcements followed by some gut-wrenching running. In order to navigate my way past the big flock I choose to stay to the far left of the footpath. I was rather elegantly whizzing past everyone, like a light-footed gazelle. Suddenly a fellow Eagal unexpectedly bent down as I was whizzing by and with that action nearly took me out and sent me flying. This was clearly an attempt to sabotage my training. What other reason could there have possibly been? The timing could not have been better and had that Eagal (aka Laura Cann) succeeded with her canning plan (see what I did there) it would have thrown a spanner in my training schedule. Eagle spirit and all that ……..my left foot. Laura Cann your cards are marked 😊😊😊
On Sunday I was due to do a 16 miler, but my ongoing issue with glutes, hip, hamstring left me thinking I might only manage a couple of miles if I am lucky. I set out with the expectation of not getting very far at all and that the pain in my backside might stop me completing my scheduled long run. I set of with fellow Eagles from the Green, thinking I might not get that far. Before we set of Santry announced to the crowd that we would meet in Artisan afterwards for coffee for anybody who fancied it. The idea of a decent cuppa was already very much appealing to me at this early stage and I hadn’t even run more than a mile. Several miles in I was happy that the pain in my behind was no worse than when I first set out. I decided to keep on going and I pushed on all the way until I got the 16 miles done. It really made no difference to my issue on this occasion and I was indeed very happy with my run. Went for a quick cuppa afterwards, where to my delight I still found some Eagles in the Coffee Shop. 😊
Wasn’t feeling great Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday last week, hence the lateness with the blog. It wasn’t a great week with regards to training, but that’s just how it goes sometimes.
Luckily Monday was a Rest Day, so I went to see Steve from Move to get the dreaded elbow-in-the-behind treatment. Needless to say it was anything but enjoyable. With my rear rump still in pain on Tuesday, and not feeling too clever, I decided to do a bit of strengthening exercise in the gym, followed by a bit of a paddle in the pool and a quick stint in the sauna to round things off.
I did show up for club run on Wednesday, but I got there a bit late, because I got carried away doing the dishes. Don’t even think about making a comment. 😊 I am sure many people - in particular women - fall victim to this strange obsession of not letting go until it is all done.
By the time I got to the Green the Eagles had already set of and I only saw the large group of Beginners finishing their session. I was hoping to just quietly run past them without being spotted. Thinking I got away with it, when I heard a very firm “you are late” followed by a “run faster” shout out. I had been well and truly rumbled. All a bit embarrassing, but also very funny at the same time. Everybody giggled. Thank you, Helen and Rob, for being so eagle eyed.
Here is hoping for more running and less dishes.
Andrea
